Barbara Wilson
Barbara Wilson is a Wisconsin-based artist that has recently earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Art with a focus in Painting and Drawing at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Through large-scale portraiture, Wilson’s paintings explore themes of self-expression and how claiming and taking up space reinforces self-identity.
Wilson has also found a love for small-scale, detailed works of mushrooms as a way to explore other ways of working with oil paint.
Wilson is a recipient of the UWM Laurence Rathsack Art Scholarship and has recently exhibited her work in Trout Museum of Art’s TMA Contemporary exhibition and UWM’s Union Art Gallery’s 51st Annual Juried Show.

After earning her degree in the Spring of 2024, Wilson has maintained momentum within Wisconsin fine arts by exhibiting work in Peck School of the Arts’ Brushwork exhibition as well as becoming a member of Jambalaya Arts in Oshkosh, WI.
In the coming months, Wilson will continue to explore her passion for painting through self-portraiture and a series of portraits of friends and family to consistently develop and maintain her portfolio for future graduate studies.
