AMIE BROWNFIELD
I'm a distracted artist. I'll have an idea, find something, see something, pick up something at a thrift shop that gets the wheels turning in my head....and I'm off!
I'll mull on it for a bit, play, gather materials, create prototypes, jump feet, wallet and any spare time I have to create (never enough time!) into a project, and if the results are to my liking, create a small body of work. Eventually some other project strikes my fancy and I'm on to my next idea.
This method is great for creating and keeping myself out of trouble, but not so great for keeping my basement studio clean and organized and free of clutter of 'projects past'. My studio is both a treasure trove and condemned disaster area.
I do always seem to circle back to pottery and the precious few hours I get to work at the studio space I have available to me is sacred, therapeutic and usually the only Zen time I have in a busy "work to pay the bills week". There's nothing like digging your hands into dirt and creating beautiful things to look at or to use.
Artist Statement
Art is subjective, it can elicit an emotional response, stir memories, make people feel something.
I strive to create pieces that draw people in. Whether it's something to hang on the wall and appreciate each time you walk by or a functional or decorative object that replaces a mundane mass-produced-injection-molded-blah-thing that lacks any individual creativity or character.
I want that engagement and delight from the human on the other side of my work.

Remnants Exhibition & Book
The Remnants exhibit is a collaboration between Artist Amie Brownfield and Poet Troy Schoultz.

The origins of this project stemmed from Amie’s collections of old photographs and found objects. She started pairing photographs with objects that seemed to ‘fit’ together and fashioned a brief narrative of who these people may have been and what significance the paired objects may have had to them. Upon showing her first pieces to Troy, he was inspired to write about each one and the concept grew into approximately 25 pieces of art and accompanying poems.

A book version of the exhibit is available on Amazon: & Etsy

Amie also has several pieces of public art:
Operation Lakefly Sculpture (2018)
Mini Mural Project (2020)
