Kate Young
Young is a multimedia artist with a focus on miniatures and the whimsical. Her project ‘Fairies of Del Ray’ started as a love letter to her hometown and has blossomed into an international project. Her fairy doors are each one of a kind, all small batch resin casted from original sculpted molds and hand-crafted details. Young has a fascination with how the natural and fantastical interact with the modern and everyday, and it shows in both her sculptural work as well as her illustrations. Young paintings tend to focus on her ‘witches’ leaning towards bright colors, the flow of hair and fabric in acrylic and watercolor. Her glass work and jewelry have a lean towards found objects including dead bugs, botanicals, and the macabre. The majority of Young's work glows in the dark, changes color in UV light, has underlying glitter and shimmer, is black light reactive, or all of the above.
